Well I hope everyone enjoyed the Super Sunday we were all treated to yesterday, with Man City’s game against Spurs being the highlight of the weekend. But funnily though it wasn’t the result which grabbed all the headlines, it was the apparent kick from Mario Balotelli on Scott Parker that was the major talking point.
The second half produced an entertaining display of attacking football from both sides, after the dull first half we had to endure. City went 2-0 up with 2 goals in 5 minutes through Nasri and Lescott. Spurs then hit back with goals from Defoe and Bale in just as many minutes. Defoe felt he could have won it when Bale crossed the ball from the left, but somehow the Englishman couldn’t connect with it. Moments later Balotelli is fouled by King in the box, from which the fiery Italian fires in the resulting penalty superbly. But it was the incident which occured before the penalty where Balotelli seems to stamp on Parkers head before he falls down that sparked fury from the Tottenham bench. The video footage below does show him intentionally kicking out.
There is a debate to whether Balotelli falls in an awkward way by losing his footing. But even if you watch it in normal speed you should realize that it was an intentional kick. I will leave you to decide if it was accidental or not.
The Lescott elbow on Kaboul was also a strange decision. Lescott can count himself lucky that he got away with that.
Controversy no.2 – Fellaini’s handball
The second controversy of last weekends games was the Fellaini handball which led to Tim Cahill breaking his goalscoring drought which has carried on for longer than a year! How the linesman couldn’t see this is beyond me. You can watch the highlights of the match and the incident below which is provided by footytube. The best view of the handball is around 1 minute in.
Controversy no.3 – Penalty sparks Fulham Comeback!
The third and final talking point of the weekend was the penalty Fulham were awarded for their first goal. Referee Mike Oliver took a while before he pointed to the spot, after a long hesitation to award Fulham with the penalty. The video replays do show that the foul on Duff occured outside the area, even though the Irishman fell inside the box. This decision proved crucial to the outcome of the game, as Fulham stormed back after being outplayed by the visitors (Newcastle) to win the match 5-2. You can watch highlights of the match below provided by footytube. The incident occurs about 3:45 mins in.
